A Message from Francesca

I understand more than anyone that your business is your livelihood and for some even a legacy. Hiring us to help your business shine, isn’t something we take lightly. Our promise is to take your business and help it reach it’s ultimate potential, staying authentic and true to who you are and the dreams you wish to accomplish.
-
I created Quilla because I wanted to continue helping others achieve their business goals. At first, my designing dreams took a backseat while I worked in the film industry, but the more time I spent building portfolio sites and assisting other filmmakers, I realized that working in film wasn’t helping me accomplish what I wanted to in this life: using my skills and talents in service of helping others reach their true potential. There is nothing greater to me than knowing I have done something to positively impact someone’s life.
-
I have always been an absolute perfectionist, so having a business means that I need to provide the greatest quality service to my ability. I grew tired of working 12+ hour days in film and did not feel like I was reaching my potential. Knowing my parents sacrificed so much to provide the life I have, I knew that if I continued on that path it would be a disservice to them. Quilla has become a means of liberation for my creativity and person. By pursuing my passion I have stepped away from the mundane and hope that I can encourage others (especially minorities and children of immigrants) to always go after their dreams and make themselves and family’s orgullosos (proud).
-
I am SO excited for Quilla’s future endeavors! Starting with digital design needs is only the beginning! If you already checked our services page than you know that plans are already in development to eventually expand to opening a seperate business that is a e-commerce shop. Selling stationary, marketing materials, patches, stickers, etc. We want to meet the needs of all small business owners who want that cozy, personal and handmade touch without the chaos, turnaround, lack of genuine connection, and dry corporate approach.
-
You are signing up to work in an extremely driven, committed, and passionate environment. One where we will help you and your business reach new heights! I built Quilla in hopes of having genuine professional connections with other business owners. Tell me about your day, your pets, and hobbies, but let’s also discuss the logistics of making profit, accomplishing and delivering your mission statement, and creating something you are truly proud of and excited to share with the world.

“Stay classy, sassy, and a bit
bad-assy
.”

I was the youngest of four, born in the vibrant city of Las Vegas to immigrant Peruvian parents.
During my formative years, I was figuring out how to blend my family's heritage with American culture, much to my parents' amusement. It wasn't always easy to find a balance between Latino traditions and American values, but I wasn't alone. I shared this journey with my fellow expat friends as we tried to embrace our new home while staying true to our roots.
In my search for a place to fit in, I went on a bit of a quirky adventure to discover myself. I read tons of books, soaked up documentaries, and found joy in unconventional hobbies like writing, biking in the desert, and even fixing things around the house — much to my mom’s surprise! Being a Virgo child of immigrants has made me endlessly curious and studious, always hungry for new knowledge.

“She believed she could

I grew into an angsty teenager, listening to “emo/punk” music whilst dreaming and desperate of a life outside of Vegas.
Growing up in Vegas isn’t just about the glitz and glam. Beyond the flashy lights lies a sprawling suburbia filled with identical homes and unspoken challenges. Battling anxiety and depression in a culture that avoids taboo topics, I buried myself in academics. I pushed to excel, knowing that competing nationally was my ticket out of Nevada. Finding my passion for screenwriting, I braced for the inevitable clash with my traditional Latino/a parents. To my surprise, they embraced my choice, giving me the freedom to flourish. Those last precious years in Vegas let me enjoy school, soak up the music scene, and pour my creativity into writing. Leaving home, I realized that my longing to escape was really about grappling with my own uncertainties. Vegas had been my training ground, preparing me for the next chapter.

“A girl should be two things:
who and what
she wants.”

It was only in those moments that I felt like I had found my calling: it was storytelling by means of creating a world in which characters exist in.
I vividly recall the day I got my acceptance to Chapman University's film school. My college years were a whirlwind of newfound independence and unforgettable experiences, from late-night study sessions to impromptu ice cream dinners. While studying film was a dream come true, I discovered my passion for Production Design and Art Direction. This journey led me to delve into graphic design, color theory, interior design, architectural history, and various art forms. In 2015, I embarked on a semester at the University of Glasgow in Scotland.
Studying abroad was an incredible experience, as a Peruvian-American who previously traveled internationally but never independently, I immersed myself in a university founded in 1451, socializing with peers from around the globe, exploring historical pubs, and traversing history worn cobblestone streets while traveling across Europe.
I took a black and white photography class where we had the chance to hide away from the sleet in red rooms developing moments I had been able to capture during my travels. The experience was one I will never forget, and one that further opened me up the world outside of the US, fully enveloping my culture, and becoming even more proud of my heritage.
Shortly after returning to the states I met my now husband and graduated with a BA in Screenwriting and Theatre Studies with a minor in Psychology. Making the big move to Los Angeles, California in pursuance of my film career.

“Not fragile like a
flower
.”
fragile like a
bomb

After six years in the industry, I felt a yearning to explore new pathways beyond film.
In the summer of 2017, I decided to start a career in the film industry in Los Angeles, beginning as a Non-Union Production Designer and later transitioning to the Art Department for a notable Macy's campaign in 2018. During the COVID pandemic, I continued to progress, eventually securing a pivotal position as a Set Decoration Coordinator with IATSE Local 871, contributing to renowned Marvel movies for their Los Angeles unit.
My mental health became a priority, and seeking help led to a diagnosis of Obsessive Compulsive Disorder, a condition I had struggled with since middle school. Recognizing the need for a change, not only for my career but also for my self-care, became crucial. While working in film, I began designing sites for colleagues and taking on graphic design projects. What started as a "side hobby" grew into a significant part of my life during the pandemic. In 2020, I delved into learning more about my Latin heritage and found profound solidarity in my community.
Though the experience unveiled many gruesome parts of my culture and heritage — I knew I had a responsibility to do something for the Peruvian culture and “orgullo” I love. Call it a historical and moral obligation to preserve my Peruvian identity but also talk about the not so great things of my heritage.
Thus, Quilla: Design | Art | Deco was born.
It was the answer I had to moving on from the film industry, finally recognizing my need to prioritize my mental health, doing what I love, and helping others by using the knowledge, talent, and skills I had gathered all while sharing my culture with the world!
Today I continue to live in Southern California, working on the occasional shoot, expanding my business alongside my husband and our adorable dog Moo!
In my life, family and ancestry define my existence. My business is an echo of their significance. So I invite you to step into my world, where some antique photos can reveal the vibrant heritage of my Peruvian family and how their sacrifices have allowed me to bring Quilla to you and your business.
